What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is the clinical and evidenced-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

To provide quality music therapy services to persons in the Flathead County area through personalized, evidenced-based interventions to meet their physical, cognitive, social, emotional, communication, and spiritual needs.

Kirsten Allen, MT-BC, is originally from Billings, MT.  She graduated summa cum laude from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Therapy in 2010.  She then moved to Denver to complete her clinical music therapy internship, after which she completed her board examination and has been a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) since February 2011.  Kirsten is also trained as a Neurologic Music Therapist by the 'Robert F. Unkefer' Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy at CSU.  Kirsten has worked extensively with clients of all ages, specializing in children with disabilities, older adults & memory care, hospice, and rehabilitation.  Kirsten worked in a private practice setting in Denver for two years serving clients of all ages, followed by working at Mountain Vista Retirement Community for three years, serving older adults with dementia, rehabilitation needs, terminally ill, and well older adults in the assisted living.  While at Mountain Vista, Kirsten successfully documented music therapy minutes on the MDS 3.0, increasing reimbursement from Medicare/Medicaid.  Kirsten is currently practicing in the Flathead Valley, serving patients receiving hospice care and older adults at several skilled nursing facilities and assisted living facilities, as well as private clients.  Kirsten has extensive experience working alongside physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, restorative nursing aides, and psychologists, improving treatment outcomes for those residents.
